The project "Kenya Week in Poland" 4- 10 October 2004

Kenya week, was first event that promoted Kenya as a country atractive culturally, turistically and industrially in Poland. Whole project contained following events:
· Kenyan products and services trades in Shopping Center 'Wola Park'
· Kenyan culture weekend in Shopping Center 'Wola Park'
· Tourist workshops leaded by Kenya Tourist Board
· Media Breakfast- Kenya Tourist Board and polish media representatives meeting
· Kenya Night- grand banquete in hotel Jan III Sobieski
Minister of Comerse and Industry, Mr. Mukhisa Kituyi and Ambassador of Kenya in Italy, accredited on Poland, Bruce Madete were honorary guests.
Kenya Week honor patronage was taken by Ministry of Foregin Affairs in Poland Republic.

Kenyan products and services trades in shopping Centre 'Wola Park' 4- 10 October 2004

African commercial village was built for trade's needs. It consisted 12 cottages standing on two opposite places of Shopping Centre 'Wola Park'.
3 photografical exhibitions were presented beetwen this places:
1. 'To whisper about Africa' by Kristina Kalinska- Kubik
2. 'I was a white Maasai woman' by Maria Chodorowska
3. 'From safari' by Michal Batr


For whole week guests who have been visiting 'Wola Park' could take a part in 'Passport to Kenya' contest, where the main reward was trip for two to Mombassa.


Kenya Week
Shopping Centre 'Wola Park'
9- 10 October 2004

The most spectacular part of Kenya Week was the weekend of Kenyan culture in Wola Park. It has taken place under motto: 'Get acquainted with all senses'. Everyone who visited Wola Park could find something for himself. You could hear live African music walking through shopping gallery, see photographical Exhibition, take part in Swahili lessons, learn to dance Afro, see interesting presentations (Kenya cradle of mankind- presentation goods tools from flint, First films on safari, 4weel vehicle through the Africa), get African haircut and take part in many games and tests.
Additional attraction of Kenyan's Culture Weekend were contests with attracitive rewards, like: African jewellery, Kenyan showls, sculptures and guide books. The youngest could take part in picture contest, older children set outon safari by Wola Park, youth could prove themselves during knowledge quiz about Kenya. During Sunday final the main reward of Kenya Week, a trip to Mombasa for two, was drawn. Ceremonies grand opening took place on Saturday 9.10.2004 at 13.00. The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Mukhisa Kituyi and Ambassador of Kenya in Italy accredited in Poland Mr. Bruce Madete were honourable guests.
Brian Scoot, jurnalist from Radio RMA Fm leaded up the show.

Kenya Week....

Wide range of promotional activities took place in polish media: newspapers, radio stations and TV stations. On October 6th Kenya Week organizers were invited to participate in TVP1, 'Coffe or Tea' program. During the program fashion shows and dance shows took place. Also methods of preparing Kenyan dishes were presented.
To make Kenya closer to polish media, Kenya Tourist Board with FKP helped to organize 'Media Breakfast' meeting where polish dailies, magazines and radio stations representatives were invited.

6- 10.10.2004
Over 50 people from many travel agencies from Poland participated in 4 workshops organized in Hotel Jan III Sobieski for Kenya Tourist Board.
Program contained presentations and worhshops of Kenyan Tourist House and Kenyan travel agencies offer presentations, during which polish firms had a chance to learne about attractions of this beautiful country and could talk with representatives of Kenyan firms from the branch. Also discussions and individual business meetengs took place.
A week trip on Safari in Kenya for two was drawn among present travel agencies.

On October 7th , in Jan III Sobieski, the grand banquet took place, during which the Kenyan specials were served. Among invited guests there were representatives of Ministry of Forein Affairs, Parliament of Poland Republic, National Industrial Room, business world and Kenyan Diaspora. Ambassador of Kenya, Mr. Bruce Madete added splendor to the banquet. Kenyan tone could have been felt thanks to live Kenyan music, dance shows and photografical exhibitions of Mrs. Agnieszka Martinka from her bicycle trip around Nakuru Lake.

First meeting after years (31.05.2003)
Thanks to Thomas Omedi, Philip Muli and Slawek Muturi Kenyans with families could meet each other 'after years' in WARSAW PUB 'Lolek' on Pola Mokotowskie. It was first informal meeting of such grouf of Kenyans settled in Poland.

Authority elections to KPF ( October 25, 2003)
The First General Elections of our society took place in Primary School nr 321 at Szadkowskiego Street. Kenyans with whole families appeared at the meeting. Exept discussins over ways of working Forum, participants had chance to try traditional Kenyan cusine dishes and to refresh old contacts with polish contractors.

Visit delegation to KPF ( October 28, 2003)
It was the first commercial mission to Middle and East Europe countries after political changes in Kenya in 2002. Participants were looking for business contacts with polish contractors.

Meeting at bowling in Promenada (... October 2003)
It was KPF members with their families meeting.

Visit of Ambasador of Kenya in Rome accredited in Poland (January 13, 2004)
Ambassador arrived to Poland for annual congress of Ambassadors, which was organized by the President Aleksander Kwasniewski. During the meeting with KPF representatives Ambasador gave his support for our initiative and engaged himself to support our activities especially 'Kenya Week' project, which is planned on May 2004. Ambassador Bruce Madete with his wife Emily Madete and secretary of Ambassador Abdishakur Hussein were guests of the meeting.

Picnic in Rynia (6.6.2004)
In summer weekend huge group of our society members and voluntaries went on a picnic upon Zegrzynski flood near Warsaw. The day passed over catch-word of fun, rest and sport.

Picnic at Pola Mokotowskie(11.09.2004)
This meeting took place at Pola Mokotowskie and then in the afternoon was moved to students at Batalionu Piesc. Traditional have dominated sport, laugh and fun.

Forum on Tourist Trade TT Warsaw (23- 25.09.2004)

In these days KPF was at XII International Tourist Trade TT Warsaw Tour & Travel. During trades we were distributing leaflets inviting to Kenya Week and distributing pamphlets promoting Kenya. Our original stand rejoiced huge visitors interest. Presence of KPF on this trades was the first step for promotion the next year's project 'Year 2006, the year to visit Kenya'.
