REPORT FROM BUW (WARSAW UNIVERSITY LIBRARY)- NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SCIENTIFIC SESSION- "AFRICA- THE CONTINENT OF XXI CENTURY"
On September 8, 2005, in a fantastic developed building of old University Library, next to Krakowskie Przedmieście, a scientific session - "Africa- the continent of XXI century" was held. It was organized by National Geographic Polska with Kenyan-Polish Forum cooperation. The session guests were members of diplomatic corps from African countries, academic teachers, missionaries, journalists and of course Kenyan-Polish members. Our mates (Marsh, Salome and others) wearing traditional African clothes have created a real sensation , adding to this event a splendid color and authenticity. There were two more strong and visually noticeable KPF accents. One of them was Sławek Muturi's presentation in the essential part of the session. Sławek presented a case study named "Intensification of relations between Poland and Kenya". The other accent was an exhibition made by Gonia Zduńczyk- " Kenyan savannahs- joy of life and joy of remaining"- consisting of photographs and original African wooden frames, which attracted the visitors with its unusual color expression.
In the essential part , which contrary to the organizers plans lasted 3 hours longer, several significant matters were mentioned, like: AIDS, beauty of un touched nature, developmental and not consumer aid and natural resources in Africa.
Gruner&Jahr - publisher of 'National Geographic" Polish edition presented also September issue of magazine, in whole devoted to Africa. This is one of very few issues that, in a long history of magazine, has no picture on a front page. The session was also a premiere of the other great publication on Africa, and that is Robert Haas's "Africa from heaven".
