FIND OUT MORE ABOUT KENYAN MYTHS

In cooperation with the Staromiejski Dom Kultury we implement a project promoting traditional myths taken from foreign cultural backgrounds. Our first edition took place in 2013/2014. On November 26th we had a meeting when there was presented an approach to African and Kenyan myths. We explained what roles they played in a traditional Kenyan society, what they taught all their listeners, how they were presented and why they are so interesting for people coming from our cultural background. Apart from such theoretic description, many myths were presented. They were taken from Gabra, Kalenjin, Luo, Kikuyu, Kamba, Maasai, Embu and Turkana tradition. The listeners were quite young, but in this project they are not children – rather students. They all could find out why the Gabra people used to analyze cow’s bowels, why the Turkana people were said to had tried to “puncture” the sky with their spears and how the Maasai were given cows by their God.
