AFRICAN DAYS 2008

African Days on May 2008 - will be a fourth edition of the project implemented by the Warsaw University Africanist Interdepartmental Group (MKAUW) for 4 years. Within the scope of its current edition there will be organized a scientific conference with discussion forseen, film festival, football tournament and a photo exhibition.

Substantial support will be assured - as it used to be each year - by members of the Polish Africanist Association. The coordinators and partners are: Kenyan-Polish Forum, Institute Français de Varsovie, Amnesty International, Inna Przestrzeń Foundation, Polish Humanitarian Aid, Simba Friends Foundation, Foreign Affairs Portal, Afryka.org Portal, Kontynent Warszawa. It is also planned to get a medial patronage as well as a special patronage by HE Ambassador of South Africa – F. C. Potgieter-Gqubule and HE Ambassador of Angola - Liseth Satumbo Pena.

SCHEDULE:
11th May
Football tournament for teams of: African Students in Poland, African refugees in Poland and students of African Studies
Place: University Hall at Banacha Str. (the modernest and the biggest sport building of the Warsaw University); between 1 pm – 6 pm.

21st – 31st May
Photo exhibition „East Africa”. The pictures were made in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

25th May
Film festival „Faces of Africa”. A fourth edition of a students' festival which is opened for all the interested ones, where you will be able to watch for example a South African film granted with Oscar – Tsotsi (2006) as well as films from collection of the French Institute (Institute Français de Varsovie). Films: "Tsotsi", "Tasuma", "Price of Forgiveness"
Place: Main Assembly Hall of the Warsaw University Old Library (Central Campus); between 4 pm and 10 pm

26th May
Conference: „Africa. Close perspective” – armed conflicts and UN & African Union interventions. Main subject of the conference will be armed conflicts, armed interventions as well as humanitarian aid on areas affected by armed activities. The invited guests will represent journalistic and governmental circles as well as NGOs.
Place: Hall A, History Department (Warsaw University Central Campus); between 3 pm – 8 pm.
