On next Sunday (25.03.2007) at 17:15, Polish TV channel TVN24 will present serial program of the cycle called Dama Pik. This time it’s main character will be Kenyan Noble prize awarder, Wangari Maathai.

Dama Pik is the cycle of programs, presenting well known and respected women. The characters of the program represent various domains, as politics, business and culture, among the women presented on Dama Pik you might find for example Yulia Tymoszenko, Dagmar Havlova, Erika Steinbach, Dora Bakoyannis, Hanna Suchocka, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Segolene Royal, Danuta Hubner and Nino Burdzanadze.

The idea to create a programme on Wangari Maathai appeared few months ago. Due to discussions with Kenyan Polish Forum, the producers wanted to present the television wievers more than activities of Kenyan Nobel prize awarder. Their intention was to show Kenyan realities, problems and challenges, to create basis for presentation of Wangari’s importance in her country. Kenyan- Polish Forum was asked to provide some help in this matter. Robert Zduńczyk, one of the members of our board, helped in organizing participation of various persons, as he used his personal contacts. Due to his efforts, many important persons took part in this program, as the professors of political sciences at Nairobi University, commentator of TV Nation and a lady, who was a maid of honour on Wangari’s wedding. And- as the most important thing- the program was made more interesting because of interview with Wangari Maathai herself. Robert Zduńczyk moved to Kenya with all the TVN24 producers and participated in realization there.

It is worth reminding, that our engagement in realization of the program is not the only way Kenyan-Polish Forum promotes the Kenyan activist in Poland. Our organization is also preparing the debate between two Noble prize awarders- Wangari Maathai and Lech Wałęsa, and plans to edit in Poland Wangari’s book titled Unbowed.
